If you want to install Internet Explorer 9, you have to download the correct bit-version for your operating system. That is, you can't use the 32-bit setup file on Windows 7 x64, and of course you can't install the 64-bit version on Windows 7 x86. However, the 64-bit setup file also contains the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer 9. The same applies when you install Internet Explorer 8 on Windows Vista.
Internet Explorer[a] (formerly Microsoft Internet Explorer[b] and Windows Internet Explorer,[c] commonly abbreviated IE or MSIE) is a deprecated series of graphical web browsers developed by Microsoft that were used in the Windows line of operating systems. Starting in 1995, it was first released as part of the add-on package Plus! for Windows 95 that year. Later versions were available as free downloads or in-service packs and included in the original equipment manufacturer (OEM) service releases of Windows 95 and later versions of Windows. Microsoft spent over US$100 million per year on Internet Explorer in the late 1990s,[6] with over 1,000 people involved in the project by 1999.[7][8] New feature development for the browser was discontinued in 2016[9] in favor of its successor, Microsoft Edge.

Internet Explorer is fully configurable using Group Policy. Administrators of Windows Server domains (for domain-joined computers) or the local computer can apply and enforce a variety of settings on computers that affect the user interface (such as disabling menu items and individual configuration options), as well as underlying security features such as downloading of files, zone configuration, per-site settings, ActiveX control behavior and others. Policy settings can be configured for each user and for each machine. Internet Explorer also supports Integrated Windows Authentication.
Internet Explorer 6 SP2 onwards uses the Attachment Execution Service of Microsoft Windows to mark executable files downloaded from the Internet as being potentially unsafe. Accessing files marked as such will prompt the user to make an explicit trust decision to execute the file, as executables originating from the Internet can be potentially unsafe. This helps in preventing the accidental installation of malware.
The three buttons on the notification bar in this example are Run, Save, and Cancel. Notice that the Save button is a split button. Pressing ENTER on the Save button, or activating it by pressing S causes the file you download to go directly to the default folder on your computer. No dialog box appears - it just happens in the background. So where do the files you download go? On my computer in Windows 7 they are saved to the following location: C:\Users\dclark\Downloads.
How can you find out where downloaded files are being saved, or change the path if you wish to? Activate the right side of the Save split button by pressing ALT+DOWN ARROW. You get the following three choices:
In prior versions of IE the dialog box for downloads took focus away from the webpage. Internet Explorer now uses the Notification Bar which appears at the bottom of the web page. The notification bar does not take focus away from the web page.
You may receive some pop-up messages that warn you about incompatible updates or program un-installations. This can be remedied easily, just click on the "Updates" or "Programs" link and then check if there are any new updates available for your Windows Vista or Internet Explorer version. You will then need to follow the simple instructions on how to install them, either through Windows Update or by downloading the" Updates" &" Installers" section from Microsoft's website. Once you have completed this step, you should not have any problems. Internet Explorer v9 also has a number of new features that make this version more user-friendly and practical than its previous version; however, it does come with a few drawbacks as well.
Internet Explorer 9 introduced the concept of Microsoft Edge, which is basically a browser extension which supports the Windows 7 platform. This means that Internet Explorer and all Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint will appear in the new browser. Internet Explorer users who are using the older version of Microsoft Office will need to download and install the "Microsoft Office 2010" component before they are able to use the new browser. Internet Explorer users will need to download and install the latest version of the Adobe Flash, which is available free of charge from the Adobe website, in order to view Flash content on the new browser.
You should download Internet Explorer if you're a very basic internet user. If you prefer paper books to Kindles, and writing letters to texting, this browser will be up your alley. You can watch videos, but after testing a few on YouTube, switching to another tab and then back again would cause the browser to crash. Avoid websites with a lot of ads and graphics, as those will make IE crash as well. This browser has come a long way in terms of speed with most sites loading in about three seconds or less. With that said, there are more things that you can't do than what you can, especially if you're trying this browser out after using others like Firefox or Chrome. No extensions, no heavy downloading, and playing browser games is nearly impossible for an extended amount of time.
A handful of very old websites require you to use Internet Explorer; but that's ok - Edge has an "IE Mode" which will let you choose certain websites to access as if you were using Internet Explorer. But the vast majority of the internet will work wonderfully with Edge, and you'll have the satisfaction and reassurance that you're running a modern web browser which will help keep you safe online.
If we can set different default directory for different things we download like Jpeg automatically save as picture folder, mpeg/divx/avi etc video file go to video folder and all other files go to download folder then IE 9 will be perfect. Of course give us the option to change the default folder for various file types for more customisation.
Keeps your downloads in order --- Download Manager keeps a running list of the files you download from the Internet, notifies you if a file could be malicious, and allows you to pause and restart a download.
Almost every time I download a file, I want to specify where it goes. The default IE9 Save button doesn't ask. Instead, I have to click the drop-down arrow next to it, then choose Save as.
According to a Microsoft forum post, Internet Explorer 9 set default download action: Save As, this option is not available... It seems quite rudimentary, but they removed this capability. The best you can do is change the default location to somewhere you'll easily get to and move files around.
Direct X 10 is a Windows application component that processes graphics and videos. The component is embedded within IE 9 and is not compatible with Windows XP's design. Direct X 10 is designed for Windows Vista and not XP. DirectX 9.0c is designed for Windows XP and works hand in hand with IE 8. You cannot download and install Direct X 10 and make it work on your Windows XP system -- the installation process will detect Windows XP and automatically download and install DirectX 9.0c instead of Direct X 10.
If you attempt to install IE 9 or higher from a CD-ROM onto your XP system, the browser's installation wizard will inform you that the application is not compatible with Windows XP. If you navigate to Microsoft's Internet Explorer download website and attempt to download the browser, the website automatically detects your computer's operating system and prompts you to download IE 8 instead of IE 9 or higher.
To download IE 8, navigate your browser to the "Download Internet Explorer 8" link (see Resources) and click the "Download" button. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the download and installation process. IE 8 replaces the IE version you currently have on your Windows XP system.
