Both operating systems let you create multiple virtual desktops, and do a good job of letting you switch between them. Confusingly, in macOS, there are two different ways for an app to run full-screen. The default is as a separate virtual desktop, which you get when you click the green maximize button (which also serves as a Resize button) but there's another full-screen mode that maintains the system menu across the top.
